St. Louis Arches
Jessica Hentoff has been involved in circus arts since 1973 as a performer and instructor. A founding member of both Big Apple Circus in NYC and Circus Flora in St. Louis, Hentoff has toured with numerous circuses and has performed as a clown, juggler, aerialist, bareback-rider, and small animal trainer. She has taught circus skills to children and adults of all ages and abilities for over a quarter of a century. Jessica has collaborated with Circus Flora since its first season. She is the coach and choreographer of the St. Louis Arches, a sensational youth troupe performing partner acrobatics, who are a regularly featured in Circus Flora. In 1989, along with her husband Mike Killian, Jessica founded everydaycircus, which provides circus-related entertainment and amusements in the St. Louis area. Their motto is “we make every day a Circus Day.”
Since 1989, Ms. Hentoff has shared circus arts with youth under the auspices of her company known as everydaycircus. In order to increase the educational reach of the organization, it became clear that support from the community in the form of grants, sponsorships and contributions would be necessary. So, in May of 2001, Circus Day Foundation was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization. For more information you can visit their website at www.circusday.org. The Circus Day Foundation “teaches the art of life through circus education.” In addition to building character through teaching circus arts, they also build bridges between communities with programs like Circus Salaam Shalom (uniting local Jewish and Muslim children) and Far East Meets Midwest (bringing together Midwestern and Asian arts and artists). The St. Louis Arches are the star student performers of the Circus Day Foundation. In addition to performing with Circus Flora, they can be seen regularly appearing in the everydaycircus ring on the third floor of City Museum.
