“INGENIOSO!”, a Don Quixote Tale
Circus Flora’s inspiration this year comes from the story of Don Quixote: a seeker of good, and righter of injustice who, not only sees what lies before him, but also so very much more. Through his eyes we view the possibilities of the extraordinary and obtainable glory of life. Our story opens as Don Quixote approaches Sancho Panza, asking him to serve as his squire. From this starting point, their series of adventures begins, first with Quixote’s legendary attack on the windmills, which he perceives as wicked, ferocious giants. From there the story continues onward, with a rollicking tale of a great and loyal friendship as the two adventurers meet innkeepers, courtesans, goat and swine herders, soldiers, priests, escaped convicts and scorned lovers, in the name of preserving all that is good and pure in life.
Circus Flora continues to provide St. Louisans with one of the most affordable entertainment options of the year.
Read our reviews from 2009:
- St. Louis Post-Dispatch - Circus Flora’s newest show captures the style of Paris, the thrill of high-flying acrobats and the belly laughs of childhood under its big tent in a parking lot in St. Louis. - by Aisha Sultan - 06/07/2009
- St. Louis Beacon - Circus Flora is a celebration of family, and not just because many of the performers are related to one another, like the Wallendas and the Pages, a family of trapeze artists. Everybody does more or less everything at Circus Flora, and the communal nature of the show is one of its most enduring charms. The circus as a whole is a family. - by Harper Barnes - 06/06/2009
- KDHX - Has it really been 23 years since our own trusty and well-beloved Circus Flora first set up its mini Big Top in our fair city? It hardly seems possible. But then, it hardly seems possible that I once had hair. In any case, however old and creaky some us in the stands have gotten over the years, Circus Flora remains forever young. - by Chuck Lavazzi - June 2009
- St. Louis Eats and Drinks With Joe and Ann Pollack - Nothing makes miracles like a circus.… That’s the sort of miracle circuses create, and Circus Flora is one among many with that magical ability. But Circus Flora lives here, has for more than 30 years, and the familiar faces and routines bring an extra fillip of laughter and tension. - by Joe and Ann Pollack - 06/07/2009
